Share a Care for Africa is run by three Minnesotan sisters who were inspired to make a difference in their global community.

Nia Diaby

Nia is the eldest sister at 23. She is a 2023 graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she received a BA in French and a BS in Human Development and Family Studies, along with a certificate in Educational Policy. She is currently teaching English in France through the TAPIF program, where she is deepening her cultural awareness and language skills.

As the former Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Alpha Chi Omega and a chapter leader of EYE to EYE, a mentorship program for students with learning disabilities, Nia has consistently advocated for marginalized voices and fostered inclusive environments. Her experience in the Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program also reinforced her belief in the power of cultural exchange and inclusive education.

Nia’s dedication to these causes reflects her passion for creating equitable opportunities for all, a commitment she brings to our work at Share a Care for Africa. With her diverse background in education, cultural advocacy, and community leadership, Nia is excited to continue making a positive impact through Share a Care’s initiatives.

Mariam Diaby

Mariam, the middle sister at 22, recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with dual degrees in Biology and French. With a long-term goal of becoming a practicing physician, Mariam is gaining clinical experience as a medical scribe for Emergency Physicians Professional Association, where she closely observes healthcare delivery and documents patient encounters. Her role not only sharpens her medical knowledge but also provides first hand insight into the complexities of patient care.

In addition to her work as a scribe, Mariam volunteers at Hennepin Healthcare, where she expands her understanding of patient needs across diverse communities. This volunteer experience allows her to engage directly with people from various backgrounds, further fueling her commitment to compassionate care.

Mariam’s work with Share a Care for Africa holds special meaning for her, as it provides a platform to take tangible steps in reducing disparities in healthcare and education in West Africa. Combining her academic background, hands-on clinical experience, and dedication to social justice, Mariam is driven to make a lasting impact on both local and global communities.

Sirah Diaby

Sirah is the youngest of the sisters at 19, and graduated from Edina High School in the year 2023. Passionate about the culinary arts, she is currently applying to pastry programs in France, with the goal of attending the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Institute in Paris this upcoming January. Sirah is eager to hone her skills in creating delicious desserts and pursue her dream of becoming a professional pastry chef.

Outside of her love for baking, Sirah enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, engaging in activities like fishing, shopping, and watching movies. Her warm and creative spirit is matched by a deep commitment to community service.

Like her sisters, Sirah is driven by a strong desire to bridge the gap between privileged and marginalized groups. Co-founding Share a Care for Africa has been a transformative experience for her, allowing her to channel her passion for giving back into meaningful projects. As she pursues her culinary dreams, Sirah remains dedicated to making a lasting impact through her ongoing involvement in Share a Care’s mission.
