2020: The Medical Center

In 2020, we took on our largest project to date: building a medical center on the border of Senegal and The Gambia. We chose this location strategically, ensuring that vital healthcare services would be accessible to families from both countries. The clinic focuses on providing essential treatments, including general medical care and prenatal/child services—crucial resources that are often difficult to find in rural areas. For many in this region, these basic services can be the difference between life and death, and we were determined to bring them to the people who need them most.

After careful planning and discussions with the local community, we selected the village of Djinany as the ideal site for the clinic, situated right on the border to serve as many people as possible. Construction of the brick structure, including windows, doors, and the roof, progressed steadily throughout 2020. However, like many organizations, we faced unexpected delays due to the global pandemic. While we couldn’t achieve everything we hoped that year, we were able to complete the building’s exterior.

It wasn’t until the following year, 2021, that we began funding for the supplies needed to make the center up-and-running. Read more about that process and the impact of the clinic by clicking  the  button below!
