2015: The Roof
In 2015, we set out to replace the school’s straw roof with a durable metal one. In Senegal, there are two primary seasons, rainy and dry. Unfortunately, the school year begins in the rainy season and ends a couple months after the rainy season starts. As a result, students often missed class or had trouble focusing due to leaks in the ceiling. We recognized that installing a metal roof would provide a long-lasting solution, allowing the children to continue learning regardless of the weather.
We reached out to our dedicated sponsors and were excited to find new supporters as well. With their help, we quickly met our fundraising goal and began the process of installing metal roofing and shingles onto the existing school building. The new roof has made a significant difference, particularly during the rainy months, ensuring that class can proceed uninterrupted by the natural elements and the learning environment is more comfortable for the students.
